Jealously is the loudest voice on KFKD, the Rush Limbaugh of the troubled writer’s mind. Jealously is a force of resentment and loathing, the sort of thing that holds a writer down as a person. Lamott mentions one of her legion of writer friends who was complaining about their own fame and money while Lamott was on the opposite side of the spectrum, struggling financially. As with many things, Lamott chose to fight this negative force with humor, writing about her envy and making jokes about it.
Again, conquering these negative voices is important during all stages of the writing process. (Please refer back to the “Radio Station KFKD” chapter for more)
